South Africa’s card licence printing machine is back

The department is working overtime to ensure driver's licence cards are printed.

SOUTH Africa’s only card licence printing machine has been repaired and is in operation.

The Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, made the announcement on his Twitter account:

“Good morning SA, yesterday I visited the Staff at the DLCA [Driving Licence Card Account] and spent the afternoon with them. The Licensing Card Machine has been fixed and is in operation. The Staff is pulling Day and Night shift to ensure your License are made and delivered.” [sic]

Mbalula added an online payment service for motor vehicle licence renewal, driving licence card renewals, learner’s licence tests and driving licence tests were on the cards.

“The interface of live enrolment units with Home Affairs has been completed. This will enable the immediate validation of fingerprints and address. We are working with the HPCSA [Health Professions Council of South Africa] to enable optometrist to upload eye tests on our systems,” he said.
