Effingham Heights resident escapes attempted hijacking

The vehicle used by the armed suspects was not fitted with number plates.

AN Effingham Heights resident was lucky to escape injury in an attempted hijacking on Saturday evening (January 22).

Sanveer Sooklall, the spokesperson for Swift Private Security, said the incident occurred at about 19:30 on Desia Crescent.

“The resident stated that three armed suspects arrived in a VW Polo and attempted to hold him up at gunpoint. The suspects demanded the keys for the resident’s vehicle, a Golf 7 GTI. A scuffle broke out between the resident and the suspects and the suspects fired one shot towards the resident before fleeing the scene,” he said.

Sooklall added the resident was unharmed in the incident.
