WATCH: Northwood and Danville celebrate outstanding results

Northglen News chatted to some of the learners who gave us insight into how they tackled learning through a pandemic.

WHILE Covid-19 impacted the academic programme, learners at Northwood School and Danville Park Girls’ High School kept their heads up and overcame numerous challenges to produce outstanding results for this year’s National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

Overall, the matric class of 2021 obtained an overall pass rate of 76.4%, an increase of 0.2% from 2020.

Northglen News spoke to some of the top achievers who all agreed that dedication, hard work and commitment are just a few of the characteristics needed to excel in matric.

Northwood School

The school’s principal, Paul Viljoen, commended the class of 2021.

“We are extremely proud of all of our boys. Seven boys obtained seven As, a further six achieved six As. I’m extremely proud of them given the challenges they’ve faced during the Covid-19 pandemic. The boys are the real heroes. Special mention must also go to Eli Govender, who also obtained a full house of seven distinctions, with an average of 94.8%,” he said.

Danville Park Girls’ High School

The principal at Danville Park Girls’ High School, Linda Scholtz, said she was proud of the Class of 2021 for their phenomenal results.

“The School Governing Body and staff of Danville congratulate the Class of 2021 on their excellent results in the NSC examinations. Danville has achieved a 100% pass rate for the 28th consecutive year.

“Three Danville Diamonds achieved eight distinctions each, five learners achieved seven distinctions each and seven learners achieved six distinctions each. The Class of 2021 achieved a 96.8% Bachelor pass, a testimony to the hard work by both learners and educators, supported by the parents,” she said.
