Man rescued after near-drowning at eMdloti Beach

The man declined medical assistance after he was assisted by paramedics.

A 46-YEAR-OLD old man was rescued by lifeguards at eMdloti Beach on Saturday afternoon.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa spokesperson, Prem Balram, the man experienced difficulty while attempting to assist a relative at the beach.

“Initially we received several calls alleging two people had drowned near the tidal pool. However, on arrival the man had been rescued by lifeguards on duty.

“According to the man’s family, he noticed his nephew experiencing difficulty in the water and went to his rescue. His nephew grabbed onto him when he started experiencing difficulty. Lifeguards managed to safely rescue him from the surf. His relative made his way out of the water without assistance,” he said.

Balram said medics examined the fatigued swimmer and he declined further medical assistance.

The incident comes just days after two young girls were rescued at eMdloti South Beach after they got into difficulty while swimming.
