WATCH: Everyone’s favourite pooch receives his own statue on uMhlanga Promenade

The statue has a Zapper code that people can scan and make a donation to the Durban & Coast SPCA.

LAST year, the rescue pooch Humphrey raised more than R1m for the Durban & Coast SPCA.

While that achievement had tails wagging, Humphrey has been bestowed with another honour; a statue on the uMhlanga Promenade.

His owner and La Lucia resident, Alwyn Immerman said the statue was a culmination of 10 years of hard work.

“The statue has been very well received by holidaymakers and local residents, with dramatic increases in donations for the Durban & Coast SPCA. There will also be an official unveiling later this month, which is so exciting! Humphrey is my best friend and I’m so honoured that he has been able to touch so many people’s lives. When I adopted him from the SPCA he was a sorry sight, a real ragamuffin – unkempt, withdrawn and submissive.

“It’s his soulful eyes and his loving demeanor that are just so special and it’s amazing to see what we’ve achieved in a decade. It was incredibly special to have this statue on the uMhlanga Promenade and I’m grateful to the Durban & Coast SPCA for everything they do,” he said.
