Netcare 911’s spokesperson, Shawn Herbst, said both patients, believed to be sisters, were pulled to shore by lifeguards, who were assisted by members of the public.

“The patients ingested water and were battling to breathe. The young girls were treated on scene by emergency care practitioners. They were then transported to hospital in a stable condition,” said Herbst.

RUSA’s spokesperson, Prem Balram, said a Robinson R44 helicopter, with a paramedic on board, was called in to provide aerial assistance.
