Our Lady of Fatima alumni helps raise more than R450 000 for charity

Genevieve Creamer says the two charitable causes she chose were close to her heart.

LOCAL resident, Genevieve Creamer (née Steyl), with the help of several women, raised more than R450 000 for the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) and the 1st for Women Foundation recently.

Creamer, an Our Lady of Fatima alumni, who matriculated in 1999, wanted to do something special for her 40th birthday, so she set up the 40goingon21 fundraising campaign.

She challenged and motivated a group of 40 women to step out of their comfort zone and join her for a 21km run. A 10km route was later added to the campaign.

“I wanted to enter my 40s with impact and purpose, by doing something truly meaningful that would connect people that I care about with my passion for running, for a greater good. Oprah once said that following your passion will lead you to your purpose, and that’s exactly how the 40goingon21 fundraising campaign was born,” Creamer said.

“The response has been incredible and I am in awe of how gracious and supportive everyone has been. Through selfless acts of kindness and gestures of goodwill, we’ve managed to surpass our target and raise more than R450 000 for our two causes,” said Creamer.

Creamer added the campaign proved the power of the human spirit.

“All the people that I have come into contact with along this journey have offered nothing but kindness and a willingness to help. It’s also reaffirmed that when women get together as a group, it is immensely powerful,” she said.
