Jungle gym attracts families to uMhlanga’s Durban View Park

The sisters said they are extremely happy that the jungle gym is being utilised and is making a difference in the community.

THE recently installed jungle gym at Durban View Park in uMhlanga is a hit as moms, nannies, and children frequent the area on a daily basis.

Families are often seen at the park, enjoying the new facility, which is a great escape from being indoors.

Ria Sadack and her 10-year-old daughter, Lamees, were spotted at the park on Friday morning.

“We live in the area and I often bring Lamees and her brother to Durban View. We have been coming here for walks since it opened and the jungle gym is the cherry on top,” she said.

Sadack added that it was difficult to find constructive things for the children to do during the Covid-19 pandemic but, since the jungle gym was installed, all the children want to do is visit Durban View.

“It’s a great initiative for the community. It gives the children something to do and to enjoy the outdoors,” she said.

Lamees Sadack (10) plays on the jungle gym at Durban View Park.

The team behind the initiative are local residents, sisters and business partners, Amy Weare and Jane Bisset, who launched the uMhlanga Promenade Playground Improvement Project last year.

“We envisioned this facility as an asset for the entire community to enjoy,” said Weare.

“We have a deep passion for our neighbourhood. If we all come together and join hands, each doing our bit to ensure that our local and greater communities are taken care off, then everyone benefits,” said Weare.

Bisset said the idea of installing a jungle gym at the park came to them during lockdown in March 2020.

“It became evident that we need safe, clean and functional outdoor communal spaces. We knew we had to do something to change the once neglected park around for everyone to enjoy,” she said.
