Adhil’s wish to use uMhlanga location to film song video

The hearing impaired man is making an impact through sign songs.

EVEN though he said he has faced many challenges as someone who is hearing impaired, Adhil Ramnath is a rising star and is aiming to reach new heights with his sign language videos.

The Durban local recently released a number of sign songs and hopes to use the uMhlanga Lagoon as the location for his next sign language music video.

“When my mum was pregnant with me, she came into contact with German measles while attending to a patient in the labour ward. Her obstetrician advised her to terminate the pregnancy, but she refused. I was delivered with no other complications, except the deafness,” said Ramnath.

Growing up, the now 36-year-old IT graduate said he felt excluded as he would see people communicating yet he was unable to hear anything.

“It was devastating but, today, the sky’s the limit for me. I am a normal human being with profound deafness and using hearing aids. I am able to communicate using South African Sign Language, lip reading and spoken language. I have completed my matric and I have an IT qualification from the Durban University of Technology,” he said.

Ramnath’s passion is to become a presenter, actor, artist, a photographer and a pastry chef. His hobbies include reading, shopping, travelling, going out for lunches, attending music festivals and hanging out with his family. He is also a foodie.

Ramnath released his first song, Spread Your Wings, Spread The Love, in July.

“I started to make these music videos to send positive messages to the people out there, especially after seeing all of the hurt and pain in the world,” he said.

To date, Ramnath has released four sign songs. His latest song, Countdown, will be released before New Year’s Eve. All of his music can be downloaded via YouTube, alternatively, send an email to adhil.ramnath@gmail.com to have the videos sent to you via WeTransfer.

Ramnath’s videos are also available on his Facebook page: SASL: Sign a Song – Adhil Ramnath and on Instagram @adhil.ramnath.

“I would really like everyone to support me on this journey by liking all of my social media accounts and interacting. I would also like to encourage people to go out and learn South African Sign Language so that they are able to communicate with deaf people,” he said.
