Armed men rob Redhill Post Office

The teller was treated at clinic and is recovering at home. The post office remains closed as it is now a crime scene.

A TELLER at the Redhill Post Office was attacked by three armed men on Monday afternoon, after they shot at and smashed through the counter screen.

South African Post Office (SAPO) spokesperson, Johan Kruger. told Northglen News that an undisclosed amount of cash had been taken during the incident.

“The men shot at and smashed the counter screen, then jumped over the counter to gain access to the area behind the counters,” he said.

The employee’s jaw was dislocated when he was assaulted by a suspect wielding a firearm.

“He received stiches and x-rays confirmed that his jaw was dislocated.  The teller was treated at a clinic, and has since been discharged and is recovering at home,” said Kruger.

He added that employees at the Redhill Post Office will receive trauma counselling, in line with standard Post Office policy, which is to render employees access to trauma counselling should they be exposed to violent crimes.

“The SA Police is investigating and the Redhill Post Office will remain closed until the forensic investigation is complete, as it is currently treated as a crime scene,” he said.
