Covid-19 case sees temporary closure of Durban North Police Station

Members of the public have been urged to visit the uMhlanga SAPS satellite station on Autumn Drive.

THE Durban North Police Station is temporarily closed after an officer tested positive for Covid-19.

Since last year, the station has had to close several times due to Covid-19 infections.

As a precaution, the station has been closed for deep cleaning and is currently operating from the uMhlanga SAPS satellite station on 1 Autumn Drive (Prestondale) until Friday, December 10, explained spokesperson, Captain Raymond Deokaran.

The news comes as South Africa reported more than 19 800 infections in a single day. The increase now represents a 26.8% positivity rate, said the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).

“The Community Service Centre will now operate from the satellite station, which is not far from the police station, for the convenience of the community. To access the station, the community can call 10111 for all emergencies and complaints, which will be attended to accordingly,” explained Deokaran. “The telephone lines at the Durban North Police station will not be accessible for the duration of the closure. However, service delivery will not be hampered.”

The management of the station apologised for any inconvenience caused. The station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Patience Xulu, can be contacted on 082 463 3329.
