Here’s how to renew your car licence faster at the post office

SAPO added its online renewal facility for motor vehicle licences has been delayed by administrative and legal requirements and is expected to be launched in early 2022.

WITH a backlog in the renewal of motor vehicle licences, the Post Office has reminded customers they can significantly reduce transaction times by registering on the National Traffic Information System’s (NATIS) website.

The South African Post Office’s (SAPO) spokesperson, Johan Kruger said drivers who are registered on NATIS will receive a reminder via an SMS with a reference number before their renewal is due.

“Vehicle owners can also choose to receive a reminder, with the same information, through email,” he said.

Presenting an SMS or printed renewal reminder eliminates several steps for the renewal at a counter and saves a great deal of time, Kruger added.

“To speed up the renewal process, the renewal notice can be printed by customers and presented at the post office when renewing a vehicle licence. Motorists can go to https://www.natis.gov.za/ and click on online services, then vehicle renewals to register, download and print the notice, or to receive a renewal reminder SMS,” he said.

Meanwhile, several provincial Department of Transport driving licence testing centres are set be open on certain weekends this festive season.

The Pinetown and Rossburgh driving licence testing centres will be open on two weekends, from December 11 to 12 and December 18 to 19 from 07:30 to 13:30. They will be open for: driver’s and PRDP licence renewals, collection of driver’s licences, and learners licence tests.
