WATCH: Makro Springfield to reopen in December after #KZNunrest

The store invites the community to join in on its ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 13.

THE damage and mayhem caused by the recent looting in KwaZulu-Natal forced many shopping centres, including Makro Springfield, to close shop for months. Following extensive restorations, the popular wholesale outlet will reopen on Monday, December 13 – just in time for festive season shopping.

“We’re back and our staff cannot wait to welcome our customers back into this amazing store. We invite one and all to join us as we cut the ribbon and open our doors again,” said general manager for the store, Sue-Anne Jones.

The branch employs 380 staff and the store spans about 10 00 square meters on a five hectare site.

“We are so excited to finally let our Springfield community know that we’re back,” said Jones “In the last four months, we have been hard at work rebuilding the store, while doing our best to offer support to our affected staff.”

The retail giant redeployed Springfield staff to other stores during the rebuild.

“We put the welfare of our people first. Our Makro staff in KwaZulu-Natal received care packs immediately following the looting and destruction. We also ensured that all staff in the affected stores remained in their jobs. We know that the reopening is as important to them and it is to us. It really reinforces our commitment to them and the community,” said Jones.

Jones said the enhancements include an upgraded design, with customer-focused hubs, digitally enhanced express checkout tills, and earth-friendly architecture to reduce Makro’s carbon footprint.
