VIDEO: uMhlanga car theft suspect arrested after crash

The suspect, together with the stolen motor vehicle, were taken back to the Durban North Police station.

ONE suspect was arrested on Queen Nandi Drive for his part in the theft of a white VW Polo.

The vehicle was stolen just after 3pm on Lagoon Drive in uMhlanga on Friday afternoon.

Marshall Security’s spokesperson, Tyron Powell said they were alerted to the theft by a member of the public who spotted two suspects breaking into the vehicle.

“We circulated the details of the stolen vehicle to all of our response officers and, a few minutes later, members of our Special Operations Team spotted the stolen vehicle driving on Queen Nandi Drive in the Quarry Heights area.

“We gave chase and, after a high-speed chase, the suspects lost control of the stolen vehicle and crashed the vehicle. One suspect was arrested but, unfortunately, the second suspect managed to evade arrest by running into a nearby informal settlement,” Powell said.

Members of the Provincial Vehicle and Trio Task Team, together with the Durban North Crime Prevention Unit, were on scene and will investigate.
