KZN Government applauds Presidential Youth Employment Initiative

The initiative is set to create employment for 64 000 youth.

THE Executive Council endorsed the extension of employment opportunities for 64000 young people under the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative that seeks to assist schools during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The initiative, led by the Department of Education, will be implemented to mitigate systematic gaps in education that were identified through the benchmark survey.

This will simultaneously mitigate the problem of youth unemployment in the province and the country.

Through this programme young people, between the ages of 18 to 35, will be employed temporarily and help provide support to teachers in the classroom as well as at an administration level.

The programme will also create positions for education assistants in specialist subjects such maths, science, technology, literacy and reading. These new roles will provide support to educators and leaners in the classroom.
