Tour Durban confirms full programme of races

Riders have a choice of the 101km (elite), 45km, 90km and 135km options on Sunday, November 28, and the MTB races, based in the vicinity of Cornubia Mall, will take place on Saturday, November 27.

ORGANISERS of the aQuellé Tour Durban confirmed this year’s event will include road races for the elite, U23 and junior licenced riders.

With the entire road racing calendar substantially juggled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Tour Durban will be staged over a two-day programme.

Race director, Alec Lenferna, insisted racing professionals and serious amateurs will be catered for in a new format

Lenferna said he was encouraged by the enthusiastic response from many of the riders.

“It will be warmer than usual at the end of November, but we anticipate that the M4 lap to eMdloti and back will be really pleasant riding mid-morning. The theme for this year’s race is #CelebrateTogether as we just enjoy being back out on a bike and riding one of the most well-loved stretches of freeway in Durban. By the time we host the race, we will all be so eager to ride and enjoy the occasion that we can look forward to being out on a bike, together, and enjoying this special part of our city,” he said.

Going forward, the race will be staged in mid-August, fitting into the national classics calendar.
