Shontel wins majority votes in Ward 36

De Boer's priority is to tackle the electrical infrastructure upgrade in the area.

SHONTEL de Boer will serve as the Ward 36 councillor again after she scooped 82.44% of the votes in last week’s Local Government Elections.

She ended with 8 931 votes against the ANC that received 667 votes.

Speaking to Northglen News, de Boer was elated to serve as the councillor in the ward for the next five years.

“I am glad that the community has put their trust in me again,” she said.

Although there has been improvement in Durban North, there are still a few issues that needed attention.

“Defective street lights are still a major problem, but the City has given its assurance that the matter will receive urgent attention,” she said.

She added that this issue affected the entire city, therefore, solutions needed to be found.

Another issue de Boer will tackle head on is power failures.

“The current infrastructure can’t cope with the continuous power surges, and this is negatively affecting Durban North residents and businesses. Kenneth Kaunda, Prospect Hall and Old Mill Way have been upgraded, but the infrastructure in the balance of Durban North needs urgent upgrading as well,” she said.

Businesses operating illegally in residential areas, including offices and medical practices, are also on de Boer’s list of issues to tackle.

“I will continue to serve the Ward 36 community to the best of my abilities, and I will ensure that I strive to do even better this term,” added de Boer.
