Votes are in – IEC starts auditing process

The IEC confirmed that results at voting stations are being captured across all wards, local municipalities and district municipalities.

WHILE votes have been counted in smaller municipalities, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said area managers are still transporting ballots to the Moses Mabhida Stadium capturing site for the eThekwini Municipality, the biggest in the province.

IEC spokesperson, Thabani Ngwira confirmed that counting at voting stations was completed on Tuesday, November 2.

He said the Commission is now capturing and auditing the results.

“There are 13 943 results that the Commission is expecting, including all wards, local municipalities and district municipalities. Currently, we have received a full set of results in three of the province’s small municipalities, which is Mooi Mpofana Municipality with 27 voting districts, eNdumeni Municipality with 24 voting districts and eMadlangeni Municipality with 34 voting districts,” said Ngwira.

While these results have all been captured, they will not be immediately available because they still have to go through the auditing process.

In the eThekwini Metro, Municipality Commission staff are still clearing a few exceptions on the system.

“The system has a built-in percentage parameter, where anything above that set parameter is treated as an exception. We then need to double-check if that parameter is correct. If it is correct, the exception is then cleared,” explained Ngwira.

Political parties can lodge their objections from today until tomorrow at 17:00.
