WATCH: Durban North sisters ready for conservation trek

They have set themselves the challenge of ascending the famous Rhino Peak (3056m) in the southern Drakensberg to raise funds for non-profit organisation, Wildlife ACT.

DURBAN North sisters, Lindy-Leigh Swales and Tami Alves have described their upcoming fundraising trek as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

They will take on the Rhino Peak Challenge (RPC), an annual conservation fundraiser at the Maloti Drakensberg World Heritage Site and have set a target to raise R40 000 (R20 000 each) in donations.

They have set themselves the challenge of ascending the famous Rhino Peak (3056m) in the southern Drakensberg to raise funds for non-profit organisation, Wildlife ACT, one of the beneficiaries.

These funds are then spent on conservation projects that involve vultures, rhinos and cranes.

According to Swales, the challenge has a mixture of things she and her sister are passionate about.

“We are both excited about the challenge as it is our first-time. We are both quite active and love animals and the outdoors. To give back to such an amazing cause is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We love trail running, the outdoors and supporting animal rescues. This challenge has a bit of everything. I’ve done a few hikes in the Drakensberg and we are heading up to Maloti a few days before to acclimatise. We’ve even set up an Instagram account where people can easily click the donate button in the link description and those funds go directly to the wildlife beneficiary,” Swales explained.

To donate to the cause, you can follow them on Instagram under the handle @we_run_for_wildlife. To find out more about the challenge, visit www.rhinopeakchallenge.co.za.
