One dead, 14 injured in North Coast Road taxi crash

Emer-G-Med paramedics together with ER24 responded to the scene at the intersection of Effingham Road.

ONE person was killed while 14 others were injured in a taxi crash on Chris Hani Road (North Coast Road) on Thursday evening.

Emer-G-Med paramedics together with ER24 responded to the scene at the intersection of Effingham Road.

According to Emer-G Med spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen, it is believed the taxi veered off the road and smashed through a brick wall.

“When paramedics arrived on the scene injured commuters had clambered to safety and an on-scene triage area was established. Three people had life threatening injuries and advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilize them, before they were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals for further care.

“The remaining patients were treated and stabilized on scene before being taken to various medical facilities for further care. A woman, approximately forty years old, suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival of paramedics,” he said.

Van Reenen added the facts surrounding the incident will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation.
