What to do if your R350 grant has been declined

Applicants who have not yet received their appeals’ feedback are requested to be patient as the organisation attempts to finalise the process.

IF your R350 grant has been declined due to UIF registration, an appeal can be made. This was noted by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).

According to a tweet on SASSA’s Twitter account, there is no need to visit the Department of Labour as the decision can be appealed by online at srd.sassa.gov.za  Once a complaint has been lodged, SASSA will verify the details with the UIF and the outcome will be communicated to you.

Since the new iteration of the Covid-19 SRD grant commenced early in August, SASSA received close to 14 million applications.

Last week the agency said more than two thirds of appeals lodged were finalised.

“SASSA requests applicants who have not yet received their appeals’ feedback to be patient as everything humanly possible is done to finalise the process” said SASSA CEO, Busisiwe Memela-Khambula.

As part of the process, SASSA sends these cases to the banking sector for validation that may, in some cases, take time.

“The main purpose is to double-check they do not receive an income, because part of the Covid-19 SRD criteria is that applicants should be unemployed and without any income,” said Memela-Khambula.

Clients can also contact SASSA’s toll free helpline on 0800 60 10 11.
