Somerset Park woman heads up organisation for the physically challenged

"Frontline SA opened in January 2018 and only operates in Durban, but we would like to expand throughout the country. Unfortunately, limited funding has restricted us from doing so,"

THEIR focus is on helping the physically challenged feel as free as possible by providing them with hardware and the therapy they may need to feel liberated.

Frontline South Africa donates wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids and glasses to schools, old age homes and individuals who are in need. They also provide the necessary therapy to ensure their recipients are acquainted with their new aids.

The organisation’s operations manager, Vivian Roopchund, who lives in Somerset Park, is no stranger to fundraising as she has worked with organisations overseas before moving to South Africa.

“Frontline SA opened in January 2018 and only operates in Durban, but we would like to expand throughout the country. Unfortunately, limited funding has restricted us from doing so,” said Roopchund.

She added that the Covid-19 pandemic had certainly put a spanner in the works and that the organisation had only started doing direct fundraising as recent as three weeks ago.

“Lots of people and businesses are under financial stress, but to those who can help can, please visit our website and make your contributions there. Frontline operates with a very small team of volunteers, so we are also looking to collaborate with other organisations who help physically challenged people so we can expand our reach,” she said.

“We also work with a physiotherapist who provides advice to those who don’t have the financial means, depending on whether we have funds available,” she said.

Apart from monetary donations, Frontline will also accept any second-hand mobility aid that will assist the physically challenged.
