THE South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) and the UPL Cornubia Fire Civil Society Action Group have invited affected communities to join them in a march on Friday, September 24.
The aim of the march is to raise awareness, concerns and ask questions about the chemical spill at the United Phosphorus Limited (UPL) Warehouse in Cornubia, after it was set on fire during the KZN unrest in July.
According to environmental groups the spill has had serious consequences for the environment.

Mthembu encouraged residents to take along placards to highlight their concerns about the environmental disaster.
“The march starts at 09:00 and ends at 11:00 in eMdloti. We stand united in the call for thorough investigation into the cause of this incident. We urge residents attending the march to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols. If residents need more information, they can email me on bongani@sdceango.co.za,” he said.
The march starts at the Total Garage on Beach Road in eMdloti and ends at 6th Avenue.
