Do you know who is dumping garbage on Mackeurtan Avenue in Durban North?

“This has been going on for well over a year now and it needs to stop. Refuse collections day for this area is a Thursday and not on any other day,” - Shontel de Boer.

WARD 36 councillor, Shontel de Boer, is looking for information on a serial garbage dumper, who has been dumping in the median on Mackeurtan Avenue in Durban North.

“This has been going on for well over a year now and it needs to stop. Refuse collections day for this area is a Thursday and not on any other day,” she said.

“This happens consistently and at one stage I even went through the bags to see if there were any bills or letters with an address on it, but there wasn’t any. It was just general refuse. I have also placed letters in residents’ post boxes along that road asking for information on this matter,” she said.

Last week, blue bags, meant for garden refuse, were dumped at the same spot. This week the dumper discarded garbage in black bags.

“This week it’s black bags and these are not municipal bags as they have drawstrings. The monkeys are ripping the bags open and it’s an eyesore for the neighbourhood as there is litter strewn all over.”

Shontel de Boer points to the garbage which was dumped on Mackeurtan Avenue on Tuesday.

She said the bags contain milk boxes, cereal boxes, egg cartons and the like, all of which can be recycled.

She urges property owners with tenants to make them [tenants] aware of the days for refuse collection and to ensure that they place their garbage bags on their verges.
