Check your voting station ahead of registration weekend, urges uMhlanga ward councillor

The registration weekend is now scheduled for the weekend of September 18 and 19.

WARD councillor, Nicole Bollman has urged residents living in Virginia to ensure they are registered at the correct voting station.

In 2016, Virginia fell well within the boundaries of Ward 36 (Durban North) with residents having gone to Northwood Boys High School to cast their votes but this changed after the Municipal Demarcation Board changed the boundaries.

“The Municipal Demarcation Board moved the boundary between wards 35 and 36 and placed a large chunk of the suburb into Ward 35 which meant that residents were now required to vote within Ward 35 and not Ward 36, changing their voting station from Northwood School to Glenashley Junior Primary School.

“It has been noted that many residents have not yet changed their voting stations which essentially means that when they vote, they would be voting for a councillor in a completely different ward to where they reside.  If you are a resident in Virginia  and reside in one of the following roads (see below) and are not registered to vote at Glenashley Junior Primary School, please do make use of the up coming voter registration weekend on September 18 and 19.  It takes approximately five minutes for you to update your details with the IEC and be able to vote in the correct ward for a councillor that will represent you over the next five years,” said Bollman.
