Driver escapes serious injury after car lands in Umhlangane River

The 27-year-old driver, who escaped with lacerations and minor injuries, was treated on scene.

A DRIVER, believed to be in his late 20s, was lucky to escape serious injuries after an accident in Avoca just before midday on Tuesday, September 7.

According to Kyle van Reenen from Emer-G-Med,  the driver and single occupant of the vehicle crashed into the Umhlangane River.

“The accident occurred on Prince Mhlangana Road in Avoca. It is unclear what caused the accident but when paramedics arrived we found the vehicle had careened off the road and landed in the Umhlangane River. The 27-year-old driver escaped with lacerations and minor injuries and was treated on scene,” he said.

This is the second accident paramedics responded to this morning after a taxi crashed on the M41 near Cornubia. 

In that incident, 13 people were treated with injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening.
