Pooch rescued in Glen Anil needs a loving home

JT the rescued dog is currently being fostered by Glenashley resident Karen Maiden who said he would make the perfect family pet.

AFTER several attempts to rescue a dog trapped behind the fence of JT Ross Park in Glen Anil, there has been a breakthrough by local residents, Nishi Singh and Karen Maiden.

The pooch, who has been named JT, had been trapped behind the property fence for more than a month and is now looking for a loving home.

Glenhills resident, Nishi Singh, said it all started with the community hearing a dog barking in the night.

“My house is close to the park and we would often hear a dog barking late into the night. I then found the source when I spotted a small brown dog near the fenceline pacing back and forth. I put a message out to the community with ideas on how to possibly rescue him. He was in a very difficult place to try and get to because of a steep embankment and electric fencing.

“We aren’t sure how he got in there but I knew we needed to try to get food over the fence for him to eat. He was very skinny and wary and skittish if anyone got close to him. We eventually got hold of the Durban & Coast SPCA who came out and put in a trap but JT, as he is now known, just wouldn’t fall for it. Eventually I got into contact with Karen Maiden who is also passionate about saving animals,” Singh said.

A plan was hatched where Maiden and Singh fed JT regularly with a kennel being put in with some dog food and water.

“Despite several attempts he just wouldn’t go into the kennel. We took turns feeding him and eventually one day my husband, Sanjay Hansraj found the dog inside the kennel. It may have been raining the night before so he had been looking for shelter. He chatted with JT but you could see he was very scared. Eventually Karen and my husband had to carry the kennel with JT inside up a steep embankment as he wouldn’t leave the safety of the kennel. It was such a huge relief seeing them get him out and he was taken to the vet. I’m just so grateful he is out of there and now what would make this an even more wonderful rescue is seeing him find a loving home,” Singh said.

JT is currently being fostered by Glenashley resident Karen Maiden who said he would make the perfect family pet.

“It’s so great to see how much he has come out of his shell since his rescue. He is so trusting and just wants to be loved. He also has such a sweet nature. I think he would make a beautiful family pet and he is an inside dog. We are just hoping someone will adopt him and give him a forever home. If he is adopted I will chip him and I will conduct a home check as well,” Maiden said.
