MEMBERS of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) came out in large numbers in Phoenix on Thursday to protest the recent killings of 36 people in the area.
The organisation announced on social media that it would march to Phoenix Police station demanding the arrest of those involved in the killings.
This march was led by Secretary General Marshall Mzingisi Dlamini and was also attended by MP Mama Makoti Sibongile Khawula, who for the past couple of weeks, has been vocal about the cruelty of these killings and her frustrations towards the police for not responding in time.

Vusi Khoza, the EFF’s KwaZulu-Natal spokesman, told Eyethu News Durban that this is a peaceful march.
“We have no intention of harming during our march, we want the police to do justice to the killings in this area. We will not sit back and watch our people lose their lives,” said Khoza.
Earlier this week, Police Minister Bheki Cele revealed that the recent unrest in Phoenix claimed the lives of 36 people.
“Of these, investigations show that 30 people died of gunshot wounds. Two were burnt to death; one was stabbed and another run over by a car. Two others died from the brutal injuries they sustained after being assaulted. These acts have no place in our society and the perpetrators will be arrested and prosecuted,” he said.
Cele added what happened in Phoenix were “criminal acts of the worst kind, which also took a racial turn”.
