WATCH: Parkhill boy enjoys first claim to fame with inspirational video

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD Parkhill boy is excited to have had his first claim to fame after featuring in a video promoting world peace.

Liam Joyce’s task was to say the word ‘peace’ in his native language and is the only child to have featured in the clip from South Africa.

His mother Shayelynne heard from a relative that the Hiroshima Peace Movement was looking for children from all over the world to feature in the clip.

“We got working on the clip straight away and made a poster. We also sourced material with South African flags on it which we used as a background,” said Shayelynne.

“Liam is generally shy but because I did the clip at home, he was very comfortable. It was a four-second clip that we had to submit,” she said Shayelynne.

After several takes, she finally captured the perfect clip and submitted it.

She added that the clip may be used in the 2020 Olympics this year which had been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We then received a notification that the video was live on YouTube. We were so excited to see Liam and he was so thrilled as well. He started shouting, ‘yay, I won the Olympics’, said the proud mother.

Shayelynne added that this video came at the right time, after the recent civil unrest, as South Africa needs peace now more than ever. “To see all these children from across the world promote peace in the world, is truly heart-warming,” she said.

When asked what he thought after seeing himself in the video, he replied: “It was cool.” “I watched it 100 times. I am so excited,” said Liam.
