A SEAFOOD eatery, based in uMhlanga, has everyone talking about the way they’ve adapted to the restrictions that the adjusted alert level 4 lockdown has brought with it.
Ocean Basket uMhlanga are now serving patrons ‘roadhouse style’ after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that restaurants will only be able to operate on a takeaway basis.

Terri Coetser, owner of the restaurant told Northglen News the idea came up during a weekly Zoom meeting with other franchise owners; which she and her husband Grant, said they had to try out.
“Ever since we started this concept, we have gained tremendous support. We’ve had people stop by from Gauteng and Gillitts, all for the experience,” she said.
The restaurant makes use of a wooden board which fits through the windows of the vehicle’s doors. Meals, drinks and condiments are placed on the board. When patrons are done with their meals, the board is removed from the car, sanitised and ready for the next vehicle.
This concept has helped this restaurant keep its door open and staff employed as the President moved the country to level 4 just three days before the restaurant opened its doors.
“We were disheartened because we had to cut down our staff complement but thanks to this idea, we are now operating with nearly a full complement of staff. We are bringing retro back,” said Coetser.
