Hefty sentence for uMhlanga jewellery thief

Mons Clifton Sithole appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court last week and was sentenced to a 30-year imprisonment. 

THE law has finally caught up with a 30-year-old man who was found guilty of robbing two jewellery stores, including one in uMhlanga, and a residence.

Mons Clifton Sithole appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court last week and was sentenced to a 30-year imprisonment.

He was found guilty of robbing a store in uMhlanga where he fled with R800 000 worth of jewellery as well as a jewellery shop in Hillcrest where watches worth R1.5-million were stolen.

The third incident was a house robbery where an off duty police officer was robbed of a plasma TV.

“The accused was sentenced to 15 years on each count. The sentence in count three runs concurrently with the sentence in count one,” said NPA spokesperson, Natasha Kara.

“The NPA welcomes the conviction and sentence,” she added.
