WATCH: Massive support for La Lucia’s Lynton

Having no immediate family that could be screened as possible matches, Lynton sent out a plea, asking people to register to become stem cell donors.

A 53-YEAR La Lucia man, who’s fighting a life-threatening blood cancer called myelofibrosis, said he was extremely grateful to everyone who supported a stem cell donor drive which him and his wife, together with DKMS Africa (formerly known as The Sunflower Fund), hosted at St Michael’s Anglican Church on Saturday.

The event saw over 400 people register to become stem cell donors and donate blood on the day.

“A massive thank you goes out to everyone who supported the event. The amount of people who have registered to donate has been phenomenal. Some have donated blood as well. The chances of finding a stem cell donor is 1:100 000. I am certain somebody will find their match on that list,” he said.

Having no immediate family that could be screened as possible matches, Lynton sent out a plea, asking people to register to become stem cell donors.

“I know a lot of people are here for me today, but today is not only about me, it’s about everyone else that might be going through a similar disease to me. Those who have donated could be helping anyone of those people today, from a six-month-old infant to an older person. Your help and donations have gone a long way,” he said.

Lloyd’s wife Sue, said she was amazed at the amount of people that attended to support her husband.

“We haven’t seen some people for ten years, and they came to support Lynton. We are very grateful to them,” she said.
