SADAG keeps phone lines running through load shedding

WITH over 1400 calls to answer each day, the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) recently upgraded their system to keep phone lines open during load shedding. In a statement, SADAG said they called on the community to help upgrade the existing equipment to maintain power during load shedding.

“It is critical that our National Helplines are fully operational 24 hours a day specifically during load shedding and power cuts,” read the statement.

“Through our own volunteers, we got an introduction to the UJ Electrical Engineering Department. Their intention to assist us escalated into the entire project being donated by the faculty to make sure we would pick up all our calls and help people countrywide,” said SADAG.

SADAG made special mention of Sune Von Solms (Associate Professor, Electrical & Electronic Engineering Science) and Prof Johan Meyer (Associate Professor, Head of School, Electrical & Electronic Engineering Science) who installed the new Schneider Inverter and batteries on Wednesday, 23 June.
