Armed suspects rob Gateway jewellery store

Durban North SAPS confirmed a case of business robbery had been opened following the incident.

A GROUP of suspects held up staff and robbed a jewellery store of several items in a business robbery at Gateway Theatre of Shopping on Sunday afternoon. 

According to Durban North SAPS, the incident occurred just after midday at Narandas Jewellers.

It is alleged the suspects held up staff and a security guard, stole rings and jewellery from one of the counters and fled the centre in getaway vehicles.

Police confirmed a case of business robbery had been opened but were unable to confirm that the group of suspects fled in two getaway vehicles. 

Gateway marketing manager, Michelle Shelley​, said that no tenants or customers were harmed during the robbery.

“Gateway confirms that a robbery took place the centre at approximately 12.22. The tenants smoke cloak was immediately activated forcing the suspects to leave the mall shortly after, with an undisclosed amount of merchandise. No tenants or customers were harmed during the incident. The centre’s security teams immediately responded to the scene and the South African Police Services (SAPS) were notified. The safety and security of customers and tenants is of utmost importance and we are working with the SAPS to assist with their investigation,” Shelley said.
