Take Covid-19 seriously urges uMhlanga ward councillor

The warning comes after councillor Nicole Bollman tested positive for the virus more than a week ago.

AS Covid-19 cases of infection continue to surge, uMhlanga ward councillor, Nicole Bollman has urged the public to take the virus seriously and take precautionary measures where possible.

This comes after Bollman tested positive for the virus more than a week ago amidst the confirmation by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) that the country is now experiencing the third wave.

In KZN, more than 10 590 people have died after contracting the virus and there has been an increase in the number of new cases recorded weekly.

“I didn’t show any signs of fever or of some symptoms that are generally telltale signs of Covid-19. Having said that Covid-19 is completely different to any cold or flu, you know when you have it. That has been my experience at least especially especially with the fatigue symptom which set in a few days after my positive confirmation.

“No matter how young, fit or strong you are, the effects are very real. While I do feel better in some respects I’m urging residents in the north Durban area to take every precaution possible as we’ve now entered a third wave. I’ve noticed a number of people’s attitude has shifted towards apathy and reluctance to wear masks but we have to do whatever we can to protect others and stop the spread of the virus,” Bollman explained.

Reiterating her comments, KZN premier Sihle Zikalala said the province’s main focus was the vaccination programme.

“Our main focus now is to accelerate vaccination and stay highly prepared. We must remain vigilant and acutely aware of the potential risk of a resurgence of infections. We cannot over-emphasise this, it is crucial for us to adhere to the non-pharmaceutical interventions, such as wearing of masks; maintaining social distancing; and washing our hands regularly with soap and water,” he said.
