Heavy rains hit parts of KZN
Hlomuka urged residents to carefully plan their trips and keep a close eye on the weather conditions.
THE KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Sipho Hlomuka, has urged residents, across the province, to exercise extreme caution.
This follows a warning by the South African Weather Service of inclement weather conditions expected to start today, 1 June, and continue until the weekend.
The weather bureau warns that significant snowfall over the Drakensburg Mountains and areas such as Kokstad and Underberg can be expected, which can potentially lead to road closures and the risk of motorists being stranded.

Hlomuka urged residents to carefully plan their trips and keep a close eye on the weather conditions.
“We are appealing to all communities in the areas that are expected to receive significant snowfall to be vigilant and to postpone any unnecessary trips,” said Hlomuka.
The inclement weather conditions are expected to extend to the northern parts of the province where the risk of localised flooding will be high as a result of the disruptive rainfall starting from today going into the evening.
He appeals to motorists and residents within Mkhanyakude, Eastern Zululand and Eastern King Cetshwayo to exercise extreme caution, especially in low lying areas.
Hlomuka added, “Disaster management teams will be on alert across the province and will be monitoring major routes and areas that are prone to flooding.”
