Police recover pistol in uMhlanga as suspects flee

Officers from the Durban North police station spotted two men standing under a tree acting suspiciously.

OFFICERS from the Crime Prevention Unit at the Durban North police station are searching for two suspects who fled from police on a routine patrol last week.

According to Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for the station, the officers were on patrol in the uMhlanga Ridge area when they spotted two men acting suspiciously.

“The two men were spotted standing under a tree on Aurora Drive in the uMhlanga Ridge area at about 5pm. Our officers made a U-turn and as they approached the two suspects dropped something and fled the scene on foot. Despite a search of the area, we were unable to locate the suspects but we did recover a pistol,” he said.

Deokaran said it was unclear if the suspects were targeting pedestrians walking home or a local business in the area.

“We have had cases of a number of pedestrian muggings in that vicinity but we are unsure if this was the case with these two suspects. We are still searching for the two men who were in possession of the firearm,” he said.
