Kitten rescued by Redhill resident on the road to recovery after attack

The kitten now named Penny has found a loving home with local resident, Farrah Khan Mahrajh.

A KITTEN that was beaten by a group of individuals down the KZN south coast has found a loving home.

Farrah Khan Maharajh, founder of the NPO, Feeding the Furballs, said the young feline, called Penny, was placed in her care following a vicious attack by people who used a plank in the attack.

It is understood the individuals involved were allegedly upset by kitten’s meowing due to her being hungry.

“A resident from an informal settlement on the south coast witnessed these individuals hitting her using a plank.”

“When he confronted them they told him they were upset by the young cat’s cries for help. He then contacted me and I placed Penny in my care. She is about a month old and at the time only weighed around 227 grams. We suspect she suffered some sort of blunt force trauma to her head because her eyesight was partially affected,” the Redhill resident explained.

“She can see now and has gained so much confidence since the attack. She’s very young and adventurous and we are just happy we can give her a loving home especially after what she’s been through.”

Maharajh thanked the member of the public who stopped the attackers and rescued the cat.

“He definitely did the right thing and if you see an animal in distress, the best thing to do is contact the local SPCA or your nearest rescue organisation. Animal cruelty is punishable by law and we should not be passive in pursuing criminal charges around anyone harming any animal,” she said.
