Truck driver killed in freak accident on N2 uMgeni flyover

The driver of the truck was ejected out the front windshield of the heavy goods truck, landing on the freeway below.

A HEAVY goods truck driver has been killed in a freak accident on the N2 Umgeni Road flyover on Tuesday morning.

Spokesperson for Rescue Care, Kyle van Reenen, said emergency services arrived on the scene to find a container truck had crashed into the barrier with its trailer overturned.

“Due to the force of the collision, the driver of the vehicle was ejected through the front windshield, over the bridge, and onto the N2 freeway below. Paramedics found the man to have sustained fatal injuries and he was declared deceased on arrival. The cause of the collision and the events preceding it are unknown and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation,” he said.

This is the second fatal accident on the N2 freeway following a crash yesterday. 

In that incident, a passenger of a Toyota Hilux bakkie that overturned was killed while searching for her cellphone on the south bound lane of the N2, near uMhlanga.
