Three suspects caught hot-wiring vehicle at Durban North shopping centre

One of the suspects has been linked to another case of theft in Durban.

THREE suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court this week on charges of attempted theft of a motor vehicle and possession of car breaking implements.

According to SAPS provincial spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the arrest was made at a Durban North shopping centre on Monday afternoon. 

Police also found a two-way radio and two bags containing car breaking implements.

“The team observed two men in a white VW Polo and when they got closer, they noticed that the men were tampering with the vehicles ignition while it was parked at a parking lot. The door of the vehicle was also damaged. There was also a vehicle waiting for the suspects and upon seeing the police officers, the two suspects jumped into the vehicle.

“The driver attempted to flee the scene but was cornered by police officers. A search was conducted and various number plates, a two-way radio and two bags containing car breaking implements were found in the suspect’s possession,” Mbele said. 

One of the suspects arrested has been linked to a theft case in Sydenham.
