Roadside Covid-19 testing site in La Lucia disappears

Ward 35 Councillor, Nicole Bollman said the site sprung up in February on William Campbell Drive when the free Covid-19 testing site was operating at the La Lucia Mall.

A ROADSIDE Covid-19 testing site has disappeared after investigations were launched into the site’s legitimacy.

Ward 35 Councillor, Nicole Bollman said the site sprung up in February on William Campbell Drive when the free Covid-19 testing site was operating at the La Lucia Mall.

After weeks of investigation, Bollman said she and Ward 36 Councillor, Shontel de Boer had a site meeting in La Lucia with members of the Health Department as well as the Centre of Communicable Disease (CDC) and Metro Police.

“In essence, there was never permission given by the municipality to utilise the areas they did to set up shop. Neither local government nor province had given permission for these stations to operate nor was there any confirmation that the nurses stationed there were in fact competent to perform the tests. The matter is still under investigation by the CDC,” said Bollman.

She urged the community to be vigilant and report suspicious testing sites.

“It is important to confirm that the testing station you are visiting complies to the general norms and standards one would associate with a medical facility,” she said.

“It had been noted that two stations in Ward 35, on Kentucky Drive and William Campbell Drive have vacated, however, if you do happen to see one pop up again, please contact myself (0824606206), Cllr de Boer (0825233635) or the Metro Police (0313610000),” added Bollman.

The KZN Health Department did not send their comment at the time this article was published.

The Northglen News made contact with the site manager from the William Campbell testing site, however, no comment was received.
