Women unite for World Day of Prayer

The service is drawn up annually by women from across the globe.

THE Women’s World Day of Prayer takes place on 5 March with a programme inspired by the motto: Informed prayer and prayerful action. The service is celebrated annually on the first Friday of March and this year’s service takes place online in light of Covid-19 restrictions.

Sylvia Garvie, a member of Durban North Methodist Chruch, said the service is held annually by women from across the globe by women from different countries, cultures and denominations.

“The service is then sent to across world, translated into the language of each country and distributed among local women as a prayer guide,” she added.

With time zones coming into play, the service is prayed throughout the world for 24 hours.

As a different country draws up the service each year, women learn about the needs of those in other countries as well as their local customs and culture.

“This year the service has been drawn up by the women of Vanuatu, an island nation in the South Pacific. The theme is: Build on a Strong Foundation,” said Garvie.

To access the service, visit the Queensburgh Methodist Facebook Page or log on to their YouTube channel on 5 March. For more information, call Garvie on 083 658 7145.
