Durban North resident to make a splash for cancer charity

Gords Reid is swimming the Splish Splash 2km Dash virtual swimming event to raise funds for NPO, Rainbows and Smiles.

DURBAN North resident, Gordon Reid is urging the community to join him as he takes on the Splish Splash 2km Dash virtual swimming event (from 1 to 7 March). Reid is swimming the event to raise funds for NPO, Rainbows and Smiles.

The foundation is a community based, charitable foundation dedicated to providing emotional, social and financial support to children diagnosed with cancer or a life-threatening illness, and their families and caregivers.
Reid will also be swimming in memory of his niece Paige Desaunois who lost her life to brain cancer last year.

“I met the founder Bonita Suckling while doing my very first Half Ironman and the more I learned about the wonderful work the foundation does, the more I admired what they’ve done with very little funding. Losing my niece, Paige, to brain cancer last year was tragic and really hit us hard as a family. So when I saw the post for the event online, I had to get behind it.

Bonita’s foundation has kindly partnered with Angels of Kindness (a Facebook page celebrating the life of Paige) and our family during this event.

“In part this is to celebrate her life and her gift of happiness and kindness she bestowed on every single person she met. I’m hoping residents will support my fundraiser and show their support for Rainbows and Smiles and Paige and swim two kilometres from the 1st to the 7th March and make a big splash in memory of Paige and all the children still fighting cancer,” he said.
