Durban and Coast SPCA blown away by generous food donations

Marketing manager of the association, Tanya Fleischer, said the SPCA uses around R5 000 worth of food per day to feed the animals in their care.

SINCE putting out an appeal for help with dog and cat food stocks, the Durban & Coast SPCA said it has been blown away by the generosity of the community of Durban.

Marketing manager of the association, Tanya Fleischer, said the SPCA uses around R5 000 worth of food per day to feed the animals in their care.

“Our stocks were running dangerously low and we put out an appeal on social media and in the Northglen News. We didn’t anticipate the response which was phenomenal. I’d like to thank all those who donated so generously and helped fill out stocks back up, this would not have been possible without them.

“Normally, you can hardly get past the door to our food stocks without tripping over huge bags of dog and cat food piled up to the ceiling, and shelves jammed with cans, boxes and sachets of pet food and now we are able to stock up again,” she said.

Fleischer added since the Covid-19 pandemic started, they’d seen a marked increase in the number of pets being brought in to our SPCA by owners who simply can’t afford to keep them.

“On the one hand, we have more mouths to feed – while on the other, we have less food to go round.
