La Lucia free covid-19 testing site closes

The site was set up in January in the underground parking area at the mall.

THE free Covid-19 testing station at La Lucia Mall was closed last week.

The decision to close the facility came as the number of positive Covid-19 cases declined and healthcare practitioners from the testing site have been sent back out into the field.

Thabani Mnyandu of the eThekwini Health Department said: “eThekwini District Health has decided to close all Covid-19 testing sites in different areas including La Lucia Mall, this is due to the numbers of positive cases that are declining.”

The site was set up in January on an ad hoc basis in the underground parking area at the mall.

Residents and members of the broader community had flocked to the site to take the Covid-19 tests.

The site was set up to offer free Covid-19 tests to the community when numbers were climbing after the second wave.
