Robbery suspect arrested following pepper spray attack on local couple

The suspect was found in possession of the stolen items.

A SUSPECT was arrested on Saturday for his role in an armed robbery of a local couple. The couple were walking along the trails near the Sibaya area when they were confronted by the suspect, who was armed with a knife.

According to Marshall Security’s Tyron Powell, the incident took place at about 9.30am.

“The suspect allegedly pepper sprayed the victims and robbed them of their belongings at knife point. Marshall Security Special Operations Team were activated to search for the suspect. A suspect fitting the description was spotted about an hour after the robbery on the N2 south bound close to the Blackburn Village Informal Settlement.

“After a short foot chase the suspect was arrested. The belongings that were stolen were recovered on the suspect as well as the knife and pepper spray canister used in the robbery. He was handed over to police for further investigation,” Powell said.
