Free Covid-19 tests offered in La Lucia

The testing station is free to the public and open between 9am to 3pm daily, including weekends.

A FREE Covid-19 testing station has been set up in La Lucia for the public to use.

Ward 35 councillor, Nicole Bollman said the station was recently installed at the La Lucia Mall entrance, in the underground parking area.

“The testing station is free to the public and open between 9am to 3pm daily including weekends,” she said.

Cindene Sheasby of La Lucia Mall said the station is located in the parkade B, opposite Entrance 3 at the far back end of the parking lot.

“The Department of Health (DOH) approached Centre Management to host a Covid-19 testing site that offers free Covid-19 tests to the local community. We agreed to this as we have a civic duty to assist the local government in their initiatives to help fight this pandemic. All Covid-19 protocols are in place and being followed strictly,” she said.

Community members who want to visit the station do not need a doctor’s referral, said Bollman.

“As long as you have been in contact with a Covid-19 positive person or are showing symptoms, you will be tested. Please remember to wear your mask, sanitize, social distance and stay at home when possible,” said Bollman.

The site has been set up on an ad hoc basis, added Bollman.

“At the moment they are doing swab tests. As of Monday, they will be conducting Rapid Covid tests,” she said.

Spokesperson for the Department of Health, Ntokozo Maphisa said most districts have rolled out the Antigen Rapid Test.

“The aim of these Rapid Tests, which produce a Covid-19 result in 15 minutes, is to ensure immediate diagnosis of patients with Covid -19 so that they can be separated and isolated. It also means demand for beds will be reduced, because statistics will show you that the vast majority of our beds are occupied by Patients Under Investigation. It will also help us ascertain whether people who pass away at home have died due to Covid-19 or other reasons,” said Maphisa.
