New Covid-19 testing site set up in Durban North

Patients do not require a doctor's referral or an appointment to have a Covid-19 test done at the site.

A NEW Covid-19 testing drive through site has been set up at the Parkhill Bowling Club in Durban North.

The site is open from 8:30am to 5pm, seven days a week.

The testing site is running as a joint initiative between the bowling club and Medisup who conduct the tests and send them to local laboratory for testing.

Jenny Berry, coordinator for the site, said the procedure is very simple.

“Patients can enter from the rear entrance on Sterling Crescent and drive through to the back of the property. They will need to stay in their vehicle at all times. At no time should they leave their vehicle. They should bring a bottle of sanitiser and keep their masks on. If a driver is travelling with a potential Covid-19 patient they should drive with windows open. It is recommended that those testing for Covid-19 drive alone or if they are a minor or unfit to drive, that they sit in the back seat of the car. They will get results via sms and they will receive a telephone call- generally by the next day,” she said.

Berry added that patients do not require a doctor’s referral or an appointment to have a Covid-19 test done at the site.

“We liaise directly with a doctor. Often people who think they have been in contact with a Covid-19 case are dealing with fear. It helps people when they are panicking that it is all taken care of behind the scenes,” she said.

President of the Parkhill Bowling Club, Graham Schouter said the site was set up to serve the community.

“There is no interaction with the club members whatsoever because it is completely separate to the club. The test is all done in the vehicle and all safety protocols are observed,” he said.

“It’s a community service. With Durban North being quite a large area, the more testing sites we have, the better, especially with the way the situation is at the moment with the numbers increasing on a rapid basis,” added Schouter.

Pensioner will receive a R50 discount if they can produce their pensioner cards. For more information, contact Ayesha 082 578 6911.
