FACILITATOR at Durban North School, Action in Autism, JayP Joubert collaborated with local musician, Manii Mor to produce afro house song, Amen which they recently released online.

The Northglen News sat down to chat with Joubert about the song and the role music plays in the community during trying times such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

1. Can you describe your music style?

2. What inspired Ameni and what message does this song convey?

“Ameni was inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic as many of us lost loved ones, we were thankful to God for being alive and our loved ones – we treasure them even more now. The message is to live with hope and to be thankful for life in a time that is totally filled with despair, frustration, isolation and social distancing. It encourages you to thank God that you are alive. If you have made it through Covid-19, like most of us, you know that it is not easy when you lose a loved one, so we have to keep the love in our various relationships alive. The message is to be grateful and we are here to show ppl that even though there is a mess out there in the world, we want people to be grateful for what they have at the moment.”

3. Do you think music has the power to inspire change in the community?

“Music has the ability to uplift a community, music even has the ability to inspire life in a victim of suicidal thoughts. Songs can direct and speak to the heart, where words fail and can elevate a boy from being the poorest to a superstar.”

5. How long have you been a facilitator at Action in Autism and does this work inspire your music at all?

“I have been a Facilitator at AiA for over a year and yes, my students love music,” said Joubert.
