Durban North police station temporarily closed due to another Covid-19 case

As a precaution, the station has been closed for deep cleaning and is currently operating from the uMhlanga SAPS satellite station on 1 Autumn Drive (Prestondale).

THE Durban North Police Station has been temporarily closed after an officer allegedly tested positive for Covid-19.

This is the eighth time since last year the station has had to close due to an officer testing positive.

As a precaution, the station has been closed for deep cleaning and is currently operating from the uMhlanga SAPS satellite station on 1 Autumn Drive (Prestondale) until Saturday, 16 January.

The news comes as South Africa reported a new record for most Covid-19 deaths in a single day since the outbreak. A total of 806 people lost their lives to the respiratory disease on Wednesday pushing the death toll past the 35 000 mark.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for the SAPS confirmed the closure.

“The station will be decontaminated and will only reopen on Saturday once its safe for us to resume duties. Our charge office will be operating from uMhlanga satellite station for the time being,” he said.
